Since 1999, Ontario Power Generation and our neighbours and conservation partners have planted more than 4.4 million trees and shrubs. We’re proud to partner with Trees Ontario to support the planting of thousands more.

Now that you have a seed kit, you can plant a tree of your own. Your kit may seem like a small step, but together we have the potential to plant thousands of new trees that will help prevent climate change and create new homes for all kinds of wildlife.

Register your kit on our site for tips and information that will help you grow your tiny tree seed into an 80-foot white spruce.

Sorry, but we no longer have seed kits available. Hundreds of kits were distributed by OPG and Trees Ontario at the Royal Winter Fair. Leftover seed kits were donated to Goderich Trees Project, a not-for-profit program aimed at replacing the trees lost in the F3 tornado that hit Goderich on Aug. 21.

The seed kit giveaway was intended to engage Ontario families in helping to replace Ontario’s tree canopy, thereby reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Ask An Expert

Q: How long will it take for my tree seedling to be big enough to plant outside?

A: When your seedling is approximately 5 - 6 months old it will be mature enough to be planted outside. You will have to control grass and weeds around the tree by pulling out the weeds with your hands or by turning them up with a shovel. Take care not to plant the tree outside if it's less than one month before the first frost.

Q: Where is the best location to plant my white spruce seedling?

A: Initially, you can plant the seedling in a corner of a garden or flowerbed. As the tree grows larger (over 1 foot tall), it will have to be moved to a location large enough to eventually hold a mature 80-foot tall tree.

Q: If I don't have a location to plant my seedling, can I transplant it into a larger container and keep it inside or on my patio?

A: Yes, you can put the tree into a larger pot as it gets bigger.
