Ontario Power Generation and Rouge Park Fall Hikes Series

Rouge Park kicked off its new Fall Biodiversity Walks – a series of themed walks with trained guides – in partnership with Ontario Power Generation (OPG) on Saturday, September 25. Visitors discovered parts of the Park they might not have visited yet, and learned and shared a bit more about their favourite spot in the Park.

OPG Feathered Friends at Pumpkinfest, Port Elgin

Over 50,000 people from around the province attended this well known, award-winning event in Port Elgin on October 2 and 3, 2010. The drama again this year was at the big tent where a pumpkin weighing in at 1,618.2 pounds was only 50 pounds short of the Canadian record. After this excitement, crowds gathered in OPG’s Feathered Friends tent along with groups that work with wildlife and habitats such as Saugeen Conservation Authority, Marine Heritage, Friends of McGregor Provincial Park and SauGreen. The main attraction, however, was the Canadian Raptor Conservancy’s Birds of Prey free-flying presentation where a golden eagle, red-tailed hawk and peregrine falcon performed three shows daily. After the show, crowds flocked to OPG’s Feathered Friends tent where OPG volunteers helped over 850 people - young and old - make bird feeders from seeds, ice cream cones and lard.

Torontonians celebrate Monarch Migration at Tommy Thompson Park

Kids of all ages and their families, joined Ontario Nature, Ontario Power Generation and the Toronto Regional Conservation Authority to learn about nature at Tommy Thompson Park for the 2nd Annual Butterfly Festival, a hands-on, interactive conservation event. Visitors learned about biodiversity and species identification, and even got to make their own bird house to take home! Check out the photos from the event.

Hike Day One: Sunday, September 12

Families, children, hikers and nature lovers, join us on Sunday, Sept. 12, to kick off the Ontario Power Generation (OPG) Fall Biodiversity Hikes on the Bruce Trail – a series of themed, guided walks taking place this fall along the Niagara Escarpment. Each hike will reveal the extraordinary variety of life along the Trail. Learn about the remarkable species and habitats of the Escarpment and why conserving biodiversity is so important.

WHEN: Sunday, Sept. 12, 2010 (Day One)

Morning and afternoon hike times: 10 a.m. – 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. – 3 p.m.

Note: The OPG Fall Biodiversity Hikes continue with Hike Day Two on Sunday, Sept. 26 and Hike Day Three: Sunday, Oct. 3

Speyside Sanctuary – Halton Hills
Hemlock Ridges – Mono
